Shannon brings her values into her community work as well, serving on her town’s environmental committee, where she helps raise awareness about conservation and sustainability.

Locally, Shannon is known as the “Chili Queen,” thanks to her leadership in the town’s Kiwanis Club and its earth-friendly annual fundraiser, Chilipalooza. Wherever she goes, Shannon leads with heart, vision, and a whole lot of intention.

About ADU For her

This journey started with a simple truth: I had too much house and not enough life.

For years, I lived in a large home filled with memories, items and space I didn’t really use. Like many women in their 50s, I found myself at a crossroads—divorced, empty-nester, navigating a new chapter, and quietly asking, “What now?” I knew I wanted more freedom, more intention, and more financial stability...but I didn’t know where to start.

Letting go of the excess stuff around me wasn’t easy. It was emotional, uncomfortable, and at times, I second-guessed myself. But I realized that by downsizing, I wasn’t giving something up—I was creating space for something better. Building an ADU (accessory dwelling unit) would be my path to that something better.

It started with a shift in mindset, a deep declutter, and a decision to use what I already owned—my property—to support the life I wanted next. My ADU became a beautiful, practical solution: a simplified and peaceful space I could live in while I leased by primary home for monthly income.

Now, I help others do the same. Through 1-on-1 coaching, I guide homeowners—particularly women navigating mid-life changes—through the step-by-step process of downsizing with purpose, navigating the myriad of ADU building processes, and sourcing the best tenants. From emotional support to organizing your space, to helping you understand permits, zoning, and finding the right contractors, I’m here to make the process less stressful and more empowering. This isn’t just about a smaller home. It’s about designing a life that fits who you are now—and who you want to be next.

Your future doesn’t need more space—it needs more intention. Let’s build it, together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is an ADU, and how can it benefit me?

An ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) is a smaller home built on your property—like a guest house, studio, or rental unit. It can create passive income, provide space for family, or offer a simpler lifestyle without moving away.

Do I need to have an extra-large lot size?

No. Many homeowners convert part of their existing space or use backyard land to build. We help you explore the most cost-effective and practical options for your unique situation.

How long does the whole process take?

The timeline depends on your contractor, local rules, and your dwelling size and layout—but that’s exactly what we figure out together. Book a session and let us map out a clear, personalized plan just for you.

How much does it cost to build an ADU?

Most homeowners spend between $40,000 and $300,000 building their unit. The average cost by size is $150 to $300 per square foot. Prices range widely due to different types of construction, including converting a basement or garage into an apartment or building a free-standing structure on your property.
